Firefighters Testing for Heart Disease

FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER), November 2, 2010 -- Firefighters in Freeport are testing their risk for sudden cardiac death.

The leading cause of death for firefighters is not injury or smoke inhalation, it’s heart attacks. The Freeport fire chief and a physician Dr. Lowell Gerber are trying to change that. They have started a pilot program that tests firefighters' cardiac health. The tests include technology that can determine who is at risk for sudden cardiac death. Read the complete story.
