Reimbursement

The Microvolt T-Wave Alternans™ (MTWA) test from Cambridge Heart is reimbursed by Medicare and several private insurers.

Coding

The CPT code for MTWA testing is 93025 (Microvolt T-Wave Alternans for assessment of ventricular arrhythmias).

Medicare

CMS issued a National Coverage Determination (NCD) for MTWA testing in 2006. The NCD covers MTWA testing, only when Cambridge Heart’s proprietary Analytic Spectral Method is used. The Medicare 2010 national average for CPT code 93025 is $196.71. Coverage policies and payment amounts vary according to geographic location. Private Insurers

MTWA testing is covered by several large private insurers including Aetna, CIGNA, Humana and Harvard Pilgrim. A variety of regional carriers including several Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans also provide coverage for MTWA testing. Please contact your insurance carrier to determine their policy regarding MTWA.
