Overview

The Microvolt T-Wave Alternans (MTWA) test from Cambridge Heart is cleared by the FDA to predict ventricular tachyarrhythmias and sudden death. Multiple prospective clinical trials demonstrate that a majority of patients from broad groups of at risk populations who test MTWA negative will likely live event-free for 12 to 24 months after their initial test.

Coding

CPT 93025 - Microvolt T-Wave Alternans for assessment of ventricular arrhythmias 1

FDA Cleared Indications

FDA cleared indications support testing a wide spectrum of patients the physician suspects are at risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmias. "The presence of Microvolt T-Wave Alternans as measured by the Analytic Spectral Method of the [HearTwave® II System] in patients with known, suspected or at risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmia predicts increased risk of a cardiac event (ventricular tachyarrhythmia or sudden death). The [HearTwave II System] should be used only as an adjunct to clinical history and the results of other non-invasive and/or invasive tests."2

Medicare

CMS has local coverage policies for MTWA testing using the Analytic Spectral Method throughout the entire country. The average reimbursement using CPT code 93025 is $286.89 per test. Individual Medicare carrier plan coverage policies and payment amounts vary among states. For specific coding or payment information, please contact our reimbursement department by clicking here.
