CMS issued a National Coverage Determination (NCD) for MTWA testing in 2006. The NCD covers MTWA testing, only when Cambridge Heart's proprietary Analytic Spectral Method is used.  Coverage policies and payment amounts vary according to geographic location.

Private Insurers

MTWA testing is covered by a large number of private insurers including Aetna, CIGNA, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Harvard Pilgrim.  A variety of regional carriers including several Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans also provide coverage for MTWA testing. Please contact your insurance carrier to determine their policy regarding MTWA.
